Detector Safety System Design

Overview

The detector's safety system protects both equipment and personnel by monitoring critical parameters and triggering safeguard actions when operating conditions fall outside safe limits. I represent the project in the CMS Detector Safety System working group and am building the PLC-based SCADA system that implements it.

My Role

  • Project representative in the CMS Detector Safety System working group.
  • Development, implementation, and maintenance of a dedicated PLC-based SCADA system, including integration of required instrumentation.
  • Defined the alarm action matrix used to trigger safety responses across detector operational scenarios.
  • Communication and collaboration with the CMS Technical Coordination on the design and implementation of the new CMS detector safety system.
  • Completed CERN JCOP courses on Finite State Machines and the WinCC-OA/JCOP framework, and Siemens SIMATIC TIA Portal Level 2 programming.
